The Shroud — (c)2004 Coz Baldwin

Shroud your body in

white lies and turtlenecks.

Tell yourself you don’t belong.

Dry your eyes out with

sea salt and papertowels.

Don’t let another tear fall.

Mold that mask into

something just a little more

easier to contend with.

Why don’t you just tear it all away?

Break it down brick by brick

and mortar up another brand new life.

You’ll love the sunny days again

and dance a waltz with drops of rain.

You’ll find a way to entertain

and find content within mundane.

Build your house up of

playing cards and sugar glass.

Line up all your soldiers, girl.

Forget the poetry.

It’s not like it was ever yours.

You’re lying to yourself again.

(and thanks for all the inspiration.)

Why don’t you just tear it all away?

Break it down brick by brick

and mortar up another brand new life.

You’ll love the sunny days again

and dance a waltz with drops of rain.

You’ll find a way to entertain

and find content within mundane.

You’ll clear a path away from pain.

You’ll drink from cups of fine champagne

and learn the power of refrain

and learn the feeling of disdain

and be blind to all that you can feign

while lying with your frightened swaine

because you chose to walk this lane

of fallen stars and the psuedo-sane.

but thanks for all the inspiration.
